¿Cómo cambiar el estereotipo de una sala? Para David del Valle repetir un patrón cuando se presenta una oportunidad para ser creativo no es una opción. Por eso, al elegir el espacio para el Design House, se opuso a la típica disposición de un sofá, una mesa y dos sillas. En su lugar, partió del concepto de sumergirse en el trópico, trayendo un pedazo de su ciudad natal, Medellín, a la fría Bogotá. “Nuestra meta era introducir el trópico en la casa. Todo gira en torno a esto. La naturaleza se manifiesta a través de piezas de mobiliario de autor y una instalación conceptual”, afirmó Del Valle.
Dos poltronas metálicas son protagonistas en este espacio cubierto de un verde grisáceo, el cual hace alusión al lo natural. Estas sillas se llaman Butaque C y son un homenaje del diseñador a la icónica silla de Clara Porset. En el medio de ellas sobresale un punto de luz generado por el reflejo de los metales en la mesa El secreto, también autoría de David.
Esta pieza se diseñó exclusivamente para esta muestra y es la consolidación de muchas inquietudes sobre la identidad, los oficios y el territorio del propio diseñador. “Esta mesa representa el tesoro antropológico y territorial mejor guardado de Colombia; el parque nacional natural Chibiriquete. Desde su forma natural hasta todo el significado que en ella alberga, esta mesa narra la mística de esta joya natural”, añade. Fundida en bronce con martillado manual, ésta es una obra representativa del verdadero significado el diseño emocional.
Debajo de estas piezas de colección, se encuentra un tapete de gran formato, el cual cierra la propuesta del estudio sobre la abstracción del trópico y lo hace uniendo el exterior del parque de la independencia con el interior de la sala. El patrón del tapete producido por ParceRugs es el resultado de un trabajo gráfico realizado sobre una fotografía tomada por el mismo diseñador de la visual de los árboles del icónico parque vecino de la casa.

How to change the stereotype of a living room? For David del Valle, repeating a pattern when presented with an opportunity to be creative is not an option. That’s why, when choosing the space for the Design House, he opposed the typical arrangement of a sofa, a table, and two chairs. Instead, he started from the concept of immersing oneself in the tropics, bringing a piece of his hometown, Medellín, to the cold Bogotá. “Our goal was to introduce the tropics into the house. Everything revolves around this. Nature manifests itself through pieces of designer furniture and a conceptual installation,” stated Del Valle.
Two metal armchairs take center stage in this space covered in a grayish green, which alludes to the natural. These chairs are called Butaque C and are a tribute by the designer to the iconic chair by Clara Porset. In the middle of them, a point of light stands out, generated by the reflection of metals on the El Secreto table, also designed by David.
This piece was designed exclusively for this exhibition and is the culmination of many concerns about the identity, trades, and territory of the designer himself. “This table represents Colombia’s best-kept anthropological and territorial treasure; Chibiriquete National Natural Park. From its natural form to all the meaning it holds, this table narrates the mystique of this natural gem,” he adds. Cast in bronze with manual hammering, this is a representative work of the true meaning of emotional design.
Underneath these collectible pieces is a large-format rug, which concludes the studio’s proposal on the abstraction of the tropics and connects the outside of Independence Park with the interior of the living room. The pattern of the rug produced by ParceRugs is the result of a graphic work done on a photograph taken by the designer himself of the visual of the trees in the iconic neighboring park of the house.
